We are happy to announce the opening of a new office in Dublin, Ireland as of the 1st of July, 2017!
Yes, we are 10 years old! When Irishman Conor Bracken registered Andovar Pte. Ltd. with Singapore’s Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority on February 8th 2007 little did he know where the journey would take him. Let’s take a quick trip down memory lane through the company’s defining moments in the last decade.
Thailand's tech industry news outlet Techsauce interviewed Andovar's CEO Conor Bracken on mobile app localization.
India vs Latin America - what are the similarities and differences and should both be considered emerging markets for localization?
Pokémon GO has taken the world by storm. At latest count, over 100 million players in dozens of countries were running around throwing PokeBalls at cute Japanese critters. It was released in Thailand in early August and quickly captured the hearts of local players. What game localization lessons can we learn from its story?
Most of the time, companies looked only at Brazilian Portuguese and a generic Latin American Spanish or even Universal Spanish to cover all the countries in one go. However, there is a lot more to be aware of if you want to understand the linguistic landscape of the region.
Andovar, same as many other translation companies, handles a wide range of content types for its clients. We have a team of localization engineers who use various tools to extract text for translation from files in any format, and reintegrate it into the same formats after translation is done. However, sometimes unexpected challenges occur and they are not always of a technical nature. One of them is when clients want us to “translate a website”.
We are happy to announce a partnership between Andovar and the International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA). Based in the center of Marseille in France, the IMGA is well-known for organizing mobile gaming awards since 2004. This year for the first time, the IMGA launches a Southeast Asian edition, the IMGA SEA, which will culminate with an award ceremony at Level Up event in Kuala Lumpur, 5-9 November 2016. As part of the partnership, Andovar will provide Thai, Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Vietnamese and Indonesian localization of the new mini-site IMGA Southeast Asia to make it more accessible to talented mobile game developers from across the region.
I feel that game localization suffers from a double whammy. It combines some of the hardest challenges of software localization with the need for creativity often reserved for literary translation. At the same time, some consider it a less serious type of work “because games are for kids”. As a result, game localizers don’t always get the recognition they deserve.
Since our founding in 2007 one of Andovar’s strengths has been our audio and video capabilities. In addition to departments responsible for text translation and desktop publishing, our Bangkok office started with an experienced audio team and one voice-over recording studio.
